Background

Akinwale Aboyade holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Stellenbosch University where he worked on assessing the techno-economic potential for co-utilizing biomass wastes with coal in the Sasol coal-to-liquid fuel conversion process. Over the course of his education and career, he has gained exposure to a wide variety of skills and work experiences related to environmental and process engineering. These include sustainable waste management (material and energy recovery), bioenergy conversion (via thermochemical processing and anaerobic digestion), contaminated land management, and flood risk management. He maintains a strong interest in the first two subject areas, with the overall goal of addressing sustainable development challenges in sub-Saharan Africa. He is currently involved in applying tools from process engineering and industrial ecology towards research on cleaner production and sustainable consumption.
